March 2022, New Horizons Paper Pumpkin

I was in love with this kit before I even got it!  Why?  Because I fell in love with the New Horizons Designer Series Papers in the Occasions Catalog that ends on June 30th!  So you still have time to purchase this DSP before it's gone.  

First up are cards I made using the card fronts from the kit. These are very similar to the DSP that you can purchase.  Most of the sentiments are from the Paper Pumpkin kit.

As you can see, there is quite a variety of cards you can make.  I used some dies I had handy for the extra greenery.  I also used different color bases to make up the variety.  My inspiration came from the Facebook group, Paper Pumpkin Fan Club.

Watercolor

Watercolor

If you are inexperienced, like me, with watercolor, here's my advice.  PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!  

My friend, Julie, came in one day and we played with watercolor.  I wasn't very happy with my results so I kept trying.  Now these two cards aren't great, but they are much improved from some of my other playtime samples.

I used the retired Blended Seasons stamp set for the flower and Good Morning Magnolia for the sentiment.  

 

So be sure to get out your water painters or paint brushes and some water to PLAY!  I put a dab of ink refill in the cover of my ink pad or you can use a tray of some kind.  I'm still playing and hope to post some more recent watercolor cards soon!

Retired Petal Promenade DSP

Have you ever purchased a paper pack from me or someone else and don't know what to do with certain pieces?  Well, I have cut up my DSP (designer series papers) and set pieces aside.  So these were in my scrap bin to finish.

These first three cards are made with "scrap" layers that were already embossed but not used.  I pulled out card bases that matched the DSP and the card came together!

This last card is using the same papers, but I decided to add a layer of stamped leaves from Healing Hugs.  The sentiment is from the retired set, So Sentimental.

I hope these cards give you some inspiration to go through your scraps and see what you can make with them!

Happy Encouragement

When going through your scraps, be sure to separate those into sections.  I have several different sections, like card bases, card layers, and DSP (designer series papers).  

This first card is made with a base from Summer Nights Add on kit for a previous Paper Pumpkin kit.  I found a card layer with the oval cut out that I wanted to use.  I pulled out my Calming Camelia stamp set and stamped on basic white and layered it behind the oval.  I pulled my colors from the card base.

The second card is a card base left over from the Adventure Begins Paper Pumpkin.  Using my Young at Heart stamp set, I stamped the ladies on a piece of basic white and placed in the opening of the base.  

The last card for today features a piece of leftover designer series papers.  Pulling colors from the paper, I used Cajun Craze to stamp the sentiment.  Celebrating You is a great stamp set to have and is carrying over into the new catalog! 

 All three of these cards are happy encouragement cards.  These are great for just because... cards to provide a smile on someone's face!

Leftover Pieces

Today I'm sharing cards I completed with leftover pieces from prior card swaps.  Some of the pieces are bases, some are stamped images. 

The first card is one I used Smoky Slate cardstock.  This originally was a Praying for You card.  

I decided to keep it simple and stamped the flower and leaves from Healing Hugs.  The sentiment is also from Healing Hugs.

I couldn't find the original card for this remake.  I had three of the trees stamped and just laying around.  So I chose Early Expresso for the background to pull out the tree color.  I stamped the sentiment in Early Expresso and popped up on dimensionals.  The sentiment is from Calming Camellia from Sale-A-Bration!

Die Cut Pieces

Here are some die cuts that I had laying around that I wasn't sure what to do with, but didn't want to throw out.  When I first get new dies (or punches) I try them out.  I don't always use the first cut, but save just in case -- you know -- a rainy day comes by and I need something FAST.

I had some Happy Birthday die cut words so I decided to make a quick birthday card.  I used the Summer Nights Add On kit and the cake is from the Young At Heart stamp set.  

Next is a card I made using some stamped images on white cardstock and a base that I used a punch on but never made anything with it.

This next card is made using a die cut.  I layered a piece of colored cardstock behind to add color for the flowers.  Added the sentiment, from So Sentimental stamp set.  

My last card was using retired dies that I had applied to the card base and set aside.  I used the balloon punch and covered two of the three balloons to add more color.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Special Moments stamp set.  Because this is photopolymer, I was able to bend it a little to give it a curved look.  Then I fussy cut it.

Designer Series Paper Scraps

Today's share are cards I made with paper scraps or card scraps that were started but never finished.  

First up is a quilt style card I made.  I already had the quilt squares applied to the background -- just needed to layer and add embellishments (which were already stamped)!

I don't know what this next pattern is called.  I had it already made sitting in a shoe box and thought I'd layer it and go!  If you know the name of this technique, leave me a comment below!

The layer of embossed white was also a scrap that I had in my layers box.  The Thanks is a retired stamp.

The next three cards are made with designer series paper scraps that I saved because they were a good size to work with.

String Art Scraps

A while ago, I played with what I call String Art.  I placed my twine in a plate with ink refill on it.  I then swirled the twine on my basic white cardstock in a book.  Then pulled the string.  Since I was playing, I had leftover pieces.  Here are cards that I finished using these leftover pieces!

So first I stamped some leaves on this "scrap."  I then went through my Paper Pumpkin leftovers and used this Old Olive Thanks tag.  What do you think?

   

Next is a simple, but elegant Thankyou Card.  This sentiment is from the Celebrating You stamp set.  

                                           

Lastly, look closely at these two cards.  They are a mirror image - I placed cardstock on both sides of my opened book and wound the twine on one sheet.  Closed the book and pulled the twine.  I then had two images to work with!

Using different bases and layering colors, I made two different cards.

Using up Scraps

Now, if you're a paper crafter, card maker or a scrapbook maker -- you have SCRAPS!  Well here are some ideas on how to use them up. 

I've separated out my Christmas papers so I could make Cards for the Troops.  I know, it's early, however, I'd like to try to send 200 myself so I have to get busy!  Here are a couple with presents on the front from just pieces of Designer Series Papers (DSP) from Stampin' Up!  

Here is a card I made with a larger piece of DSP.  I just couldn't throw it away!

And lastly, is a card I made learning how to make the quilt patterned using up square pieces of scrap paper.  I actually made two of these type of cards, but I mailed the other one without taking a picture!

Christmas Card Remakes

My husband and I used to breed Dachshunds.  As a business, we received a lot of promotional cards in the mail.  Although this post has nothing to do with Stampin' Up! I wanted to share with you how to remake cards you receive from loved ones that are store bought.  Sometimes I even send the remake back to the person I received it from to see if they remember!

These are promotion cards that I cut up and made new cards.  Some are from the same card!  Can you tell which two cards are from the single promotion card I received?

I hope this will help get your creative juices flowing!
